Many of the Renaissance artists were not born in Rome. Nor were they most active in Rome, but their art pieces were ordered by the Popes and hence so many artists are represented in Rome.

Here you can find art pieces by amongst others Pinturicchio, Filipino Lippi, Sandro Botticelli, Andrea del Sarto, Leonardo da Vinci, Bellini, Giorgone, Titan and here are also sculptures and paintings by the artists and masters who grew up in Rome or by those who lived most of their lives in Rome such as Gianlorenzo Bernini, Donato Bramante, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Annibale Carracci, Guido Reni and Raffaello Sanzio (Rafael). This makes Rome an El Dorado for art lovers.

All over the city, in the smallest of churches, on every Piazza one finds art pieces by one of the masters.
