Pantheon and Piazza Navona

Around Pantheon and Piazza Navona a lot of buildings from the Baroque epoch are to be found.

.
Santa Maria di Minerva

Behind Pantheon one will find this small square dedicated to the Goddess Minerva. The Obelisk in the middle of the square is made by Bernini.

The plain church in the background is Santa Maria sopra Minerva. This is the single Gothic church in Rome. The front is very plain since the former grand gothic front was torn down in order to make room for a more modern look. But if you enter the church you will be very astonished. The interior is so tremendously grand and beautiful in comparison to the plain exterior. Pay special notice to Antoniazzo Romano’s Annunciation in the second chapel.
