Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti

Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti, was built by Francesco de Sanctis 1723. The stair has 137 steps and takes you from the square Piazza di Spagna to the baroque church Trinità dei Monti.
In Piazza di Spagna in front of Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti is Fontana della Barcaccia created by Pietro Bernin, the father of Bernini. The fountain has the shape of a boat filled with water. The boat looks as if it is stranded, representing the heavy floodings of the Tiber 1598.
On top of the stairs one reaches Piazza Trinità dei Monti, a gathering place for painters and sculptors. The church Trinità dei Monti next to the square is very beautiful with its two towers. It was constructed by Charles VIII.
